While they set out to make a show about "a place far away from the world," they opted to change the setting to the Pacific Northwest because the tree-rich region provided a "sense of mystery in the forest and the darkness." Summers mentions in the book how she took acting classes even when she was already a superstar as an actor, showing how humble she was despite her fame and her desire to improve her craft. She made sure to be the focus of the press and therefore secured her fame.
What I found interesting was the way she had a hold on the press. Good press is something every upcoming talent in every industry needs. None of this had anything to do with movies, but Marilyn understood early on the importance of good press. The journalist liked her, and the Press Club gave her a special award. Anthony Summers describes her as determined and strong-willed.
The media might be different, but I don’t doubt her determination and strong will to do what she desired most. After reading this book, I found myself wondering if she were alive today, would she create the same success that she did before? I honestly think she would.
